Product Overview
VelvaBlend is a robust, nonionic self-emulsifying wax system composed of Cetearyl Alcohol and Ceteareth-20, engineered to simplify the creation of stable and elegant oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. Acting as both an emulsifying agent and consistency builder, it allows formulators to achieve smooth, well-structured textures with enhanced stability even at pH extremes and in high electrolyte environments. Widely valued in professional and DIY cosmetic formulations, VelvaBlend provides the structural integrity necessary for rich creams, lotions, and specialized treatments like antiperspirants and depilatories.
Key Benefits & Cosmetic Applications
VelvaBlend delivers multifunctional performance in emulsified systems, supporting both formulation stability and sensory enhancement. Its unique composition allows for the creation of sophisticated textures while maintaining emulsion integrity over time.
- Robust Emulsion Stability: Effective at stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions even under challenging conditions, including pH extremes and high electrolyte levels, making it ideal for complex formulations such as antiperspirants and hair straighteners.
- Texture & Viscosity Enhancement: Builds rich, creamy textures and improves product body without heaviness, contributing to the luxurious feel of finished skincare and hair care products.
- Versatile Formulation Utility: Suitable for a wide range of personal care formats, from standard moisturizers to specialized treatments like cold waves and depilatories, offering broad applicability for formulators.
- Skin Conditioning Support: The fatty alcohol component contributes a smooth, soft skin feel typical of high-quality emulsion systems, enhancing the overall user experience.
Common Cosmetic Applications
- Face creams and moisturizers
- Body lotions and body butters

Formulation & Processing Guidelines
How to Incorporate
- Phase Addition: Add VelvaBlend to the oil phase of your emulsion system.
- Heating: Heat alongside other oil-phase ingredients until fully melted and uniform.
- Emulsification: Combine with the heated water phase under controlled mixing to form a stable emulsion.
- Key Requirement: Ensure complete melting of wax components before emulsification for optimal stability.
Compatibility
- Effective in Challenging Systems: Notably effective in formulations that challenge standard emulsifiers, including those with high electrolyte content or extreme pH levels.
- Broad Compatibility: Compatible with a wide range of emollients and oils.
- Testing Advised: As with most ethoxylated emulsifiers, formulators should conduct stability testing when combining with specific actives or in novel systems.
Formulation Tips
- Because this ingredient is designed for stability in difficult systems (such as antiperspirants), it may offer superior performance in formulations where standard emulsifiers fail.
- Adjust usage level based on desired viscosity and product richness; higher concentrations typically yield thicker, creamier emulsions.
- Standard stability testing is recommended for final product validation, particularly for leave-on applications.
Suggested Applications
- O/W emulsions requiring high stability
- Antiperspirant sticks and rolls
- Depilatory creams
- Hair straightening and perming formulations
- Rich body butters and moisturizers
Sustainability & Ethical Profile
VelvaBlend is derived from a combination of plant/vegetable and petrochemical/synthetic raw materials. The product contains 79% Derived Natural (Natural Origin Content) according to ISO 16128 standards. The palm-derived content is calculated at 79% (MBAL certified), with no palm kernel oil used in the feedstocks. Regarding biodegradability, the component Ceteareth-20 is considered readily biodegradable (>99% degradation in 19 days via static test procedure). The Cetearyl Alcohol component is expected to be readily biodegradable based on read-across data for structurally similar linear aliphatic alcohols. While the final product blend has not been directly tested for biodegradability, its components demonstrate favorable environmental profiles.
In alignment with Crafting Cosmetics sourcing standards, this ingredient is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free.
